The District Attorney’s Office is empowered and obligated by Colorado law to prosecute crimes committed in our jurisdiction. We seek justice by exercising prosecutorial discretion in cases involving violations of Colorado’s criminal laws committed by adults and juveniles. We are committed to advocating for victims’ rights and promoting public safety, and pursuing a fair system of justice that is equal for all.

The primary role of a prosecutor is to seek justice, not merely a conviction. In some cases, this can mean we seek sentences to prison for our most serious offenses, but it can also mean seeking something other than a conviction (such as referring a juvenile to the Juvenile Diversion Counseling Program). The office serves as a driving force for many initiatives and preventative programs that work to reduce crime, protect victims, and enhance the lives of district residents.

Colorado has 23 judicial districts. The 23rd Judicial District is comprised of three counties: Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln. The 23rd Judicial District was established in 2025 and is the newest Judicial District in Colorado.
