George H. Brauchler
District Attorney
23th Judicial District
George Brauchler is the District Attorney for the newly created 23rd Judicial District in Colorado, encompassing Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln counties. It is the first new judicial district in Colorado in more than 60 years. He was sworn in on January 14, 2025.
George Brauchler served as the elected District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District (JD), Colorado’s most populous district. with more than 1.1 million Coloradans from 2013-2021.
Over his 30 year career, George has served as a Deputy District Attorney, Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, military prosecutor, criminal defense attorney, military defense attorney, and the Chief of Military Justice — the chief prosecutor—for Fort Carson, the 4th Infantry Division, and the U.S. Division North in Tikrit, Iraq. Colonel Brauchler serves as a military judge and legal advisor in the Colorado National Guard and is a Distinguished Graduate of the U.S. Army War College.
As a state prosecutor, he handled the felony cases from three, high-profile mass shooting cases: Columbine High School (1999), Aurora Theater (Batman) (2012), and recently, STEM Academy School (2019).
He has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado School of Law, University of Denver College of Law, the U.S. Army JAG School, and has trained state, military, and international prosecutors across the United States and worldwide, including the International Criminal Court at The Hague.
George Brauchler earned a baccalaureate degree in Economics and Political Science, as well as a Juris Doctor, from the University of Colorado at Boulder (Sko Buffs).
George serves on the boards of the Denver Police Foundation, Home Builder’s Foundation and Scouting.
George and his family have lived in Douglas County, Colorado for nearly 30 years.
